Data Week 2022 is the spring gathering of the European Big Data and Data Driven AI research and innovation communities. In Data Week, the participants share knowledge and results, discuss topics of common interest, find synergies, build new collaborations and identify new challenges and recommendations. Data Week also links the communities and their results to the European policies and market needs and brings European initiatives and activities closer to local communities.

The event is co-organised by Big Data Value Association and the EUHubs4Data project. The second edition is organised in collaboration with CEA and Poznan Super Computing Center.  This year, Data Week has different activities organised over a period of 2-3 weeks. The opening event will kick-start the activities on the 24th of May. The event weeks includes local events organized by the BDVA i-Spaces and international online sessions/workshops by the community, running until June 3rd. Finally, Data Week culminates at the 2-day physical event on June 8th and 9th (date to be confirmed), where the major topics discussed throughout the event weeks will be tackled through keynotes, panels, round tables and presentations by experts.

Pricing

The online activities to the Data Week are free of charge, requiring only registration. The physical conference will have an entry fee. Registrations will open in April.

Topics of Data Week 2022

This year, theme of the Data Week is “Towards an innovative, trusted and fair European data economy”, focusing on these main topics:

  • Data for Trustworthy AI
  • Federation of data experimentation infrastructures and ecosystems
  • Data Spaces and data platforms
  • Digital Twins in the Computing continuum
  • Privacy-Preserving technologies
  • Regulation, Standardisation, and Innovation. Data and AI governance
  • AI and Data challenges on specific sectors
  • Challenges and opportunities for SMEs in the data economy
  • Data and AI contributing to the European Green Deal
  • Others (bottom-up topics from session proposers will also be considered)

Call for workshops

Organisations and projects are invited to submit proposals for online workshops/sessions for the Data Week. The online workshops/sessions are taking place from May 25th to June 3rd. Selected organisers have a chance to host an online session during the event period and to be invited to the discussions at the physical conference (this would apply to a subset of selected sessions). Data Week 2022 is an excellent opportunity for actors on regional and European levels to present their achievements, exchange knowledge and network with the community. BDVA members, EUHubs4Data partners, BDVA Task Forces, Data and AI Projects, and other collaborators are invited to submit proposals.

Workshops are expected to be 1-2 hours but longer workshops are also feasible. The initial indication of workshops to be selected will be 4 per topic. However, the final number of selected workshops will depend on the demand and quality of the proposals. In case there are multiple similar proposals for addressing the same topic, the Data Week programme committee may propose merging the sessions.

How to apply

Criteria for selection

Data Week Programme Committee will select the sessions to be added as a part of the event programme. For optimising the chances of getting selected, make sure your application ticks these boxes:

  • Collaboration / engagement of the community (sessions building synergies, bringing together several projects and/or BDVA Task Forces, etc.)
  • Relevance/added value to the track/topic for which the session is proposed (why is your session relevant for the topic)
  • Audience engagement during the workshop
  • Contribution to BDVA and/or EUHubs4Data Strategy

Timeline

  • Call for workshops: March 9 to March 30th
  • Evaluation process: March 31rdto April 8st
  • Workshops selected: Communication expected from the week of April 11th
  • All workshops are expected to be confirmed, fully described and online by the end of April 2021.
  • Note: the call for workshops might be extended if some topics are not sufficiently covered
